Corvettes at Tail of the Dragon Rt.129

For the last three years several members of the Coastal Carolina Corvette Club have gone to western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee to run the Vettes on the Tail of the Dragon. The Tail consists of 318 curves in 11 miles. This trip is one of our favorites! It is beautiful this time of the year.

Every year the Vettes stop in Waynesville, NC for Chocolate covered Toffee. Karen and Cindy in front of the vettes.
We always eat at Lynn's Restaurant! It is the only restaurant in Robbinsville, NC where we stay. Angelo, Chyrel, Gale, J.B., Cindy, Buzz and Ed's hand.

Preparing to leave to run the Vettes on the Tail of the Dragon! :)
It is a little foggy, but that is not going to stop this group!

Tim, Ed, and Karen are checking the map before we leave Saturday morning.

Here we go heading up to the Tail of the Dragon. The 'Tail' consists of 318 curves in 11 miles. We were a little worried about the fog going up, but as we started up the mountain the fog opened up, and the roads were not the least bit damp.

At the end of the Tail of the Dragon!! It is 25 minutes or less of pure excitement with 318 curves in 11 miles! Next Cherohala Skyway!

Vettes to Cherohala Skyway

After running the Tail of the Dragon we found a very nice road cutting through the mountains to the Cheohala Skyway! In Tellico Plains we learned that the Skyway was closed due to an accident involving moving a 200 year old house! :(

We had lunch at Tellicafe before hitting the Cherohala Skyway. We learned from some bikers that we could cut around the accident with the house and get on the Skyway above the house. This would mean some rough country roads. We figured our Vettes were up to that! :)

We were determined to drive on the Cherohala Skyway!! This is one of our favorite drives. The road is good and the curves are swooping but tight at times. While trying to find the Skyway some bikers told us to go down this road. It later turned into a one lane road. As Buzz sang 'Dueling Bangos' we kept going until we saw Mini Coopers buzzing by. Finally it was the Skyway!!

We pulled off on the Skyway to try to decide which way to go! We decided to go to Bald River Falls and see if we could find the 200 year old house that was blocking the Skyway.

Buzz and Chyrel looked at the map. Look carefully. Both of them are pointing in different directions. Maybe Chyrel's thumb in pointing the same was as Buzz's arm!

Yeah ! We found the Bald River Falls. Now to find the house blocking the road.

The Corvette group that LOVES to travel. Karen, Buzz, Cindy, Patti, Ed, Tim, Angelo, Chyrel, J.B., and Gale. This picture was taken by Cindy at the Bald River Falls Bridge.

Finally we find the 200 year old House that has been blocking the Cherohala Skyway. It was being towed on the blue truck without a permit, on a weekend. It took another huge truck with a wench to pull the blue truck out from under the house. When we left both trucks were gone and the house was just sitting in the middle of the Skyway. The guard rail kept it from going into the river!!

After leaving Karen and Ed (they drove back over the 'Tail' to Ohio), we drove home in the rain! All in all the weather was great on Saturday and we all had a great time together!!
